Ma woman Kianga walks around searching for grass armed with a machete and a rope around her waist. In Esiteti, where Kianga lives, severe drought had led men to leave, guiding herds of cattle in search of greener pastures. Women like Kianga bear the responsibility of looking after the boma (community).  They are tasked with providing for their children and protecting the remaining livestock, including sheep, goats, and vulnerable young calves.
